Nerd Handbook
I don't normally post just to link to things I like, but I read The Nerd Handbook, and it's both true (for the most part) and delightful. If your significant other is a nerd, read this now. If you are a nerd, maybe it will help you understand why she is pissed off at you.
As much as I love this article, by the end of it, it only served to point out exactly why my relationship with Elizabeth failed so beautifully. Before I read this, I chalked it up to depression and schoolwork, but now I realize that she just wasn't my project. I couldn't find a project, so I became sad and isolated (the depression), and she didn't understand the lack of interest in conversations, which made her miserable.
Now I'm juggling five projects.
1) Elizabeth
2) Guitar
3) Workout
4) World of Warcraft
5) Webby stuff (comic, site design, I, Rev!)
So, Elizabeth freaked out last week. Again, she doesn't understand why I'm pushing so hard for her, why I'm giving her all my attention and bugging her all the time. I honestly don't want to use this article as the reasoning behind all my unpleasantries, but it does a wonderful job at it. I got a huge batch of "relevant information" recently, so I'm going to work really hard at just leaving her alone.
And who knows? Maybe she'll read this, answers will pique her interests, she'll read The Nerd Handbook and suddenly understand everything, realize that our relationship makes sense, and call me to let me know how we should be together. Also I'll start shitting gold and become a billionaire.
