Envy

My new design is live. You can read all about it after the jump.

The new design, Envy, is an extension of myself in more ways than just a overall jealousness of all things that look better than mine.

The striking header gives way to a lot of whitespace, as well as the actual content of the page. The font is Trebuchet MS (then Helvetica, then Verdana...). I designed Envy to follow somewhat of a grid system. By storing less used content at the bottom, I've reclaimed much whitespace and allowed the page to breathe.

The bottom is split up into three columns, the first being a new navigation system I worked on. Basically, you click on the month, and you can see all the archives of that month. Simple, yet effective. The blogroll is much more than that, but "Blogroll, Comicroll, Othercoolthingsroll" just didn't fit in that area. The credits are just that.

The biggest thing about this design is, other than the artwork (done in Photoshop), the fact that the majority of my debugging was done on my new copy of Ubuntu 7.04. The work flow was way different to what I'm used to, but it was a good experience. Except for The Gimp. That still sucked.

The thing I hope you'll notice most about the new design is the things you'll notice least. The subtle gradients that separate the sections of the page and the lightly drop-shadowed text boxes that all make the page feel more clean and accessible.

This design has been tested to work flawlessly in Firefox and Internet Explorer 7. It works great in Opera, although it handles some Firefox-only Javascript oddly. The layout seems to break in older versions of Internet Explorer. If the site doesn't look right, you are using an inferior browser, and I recommend you to get Firefox now.

This update is (hopefully) a sign that I'm starting to write again. I'm thinking about a fixed schedule, like work on my comics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and update I, Revolutionary! on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I hope you enjoy the new I, Revolutionary!.
