On Drama and Creativity

It’s an unspoken truth—drama begets drama. The more anyone tries to get out of drama or just quit with the drama, more drama is created. As a matter of fact, in trying to explain myself I’m only creating more of the sticky substance, thicker than blood, less viscous that water and tenfold more corrosive to an ego.

Trying to argue with someone involved in drama is like trying to argue religion—you are completely, irrefutably correct. You keep giving him point after point clearly and precisely detailing how you are correct and he is wrong, yet he remains dense, refusing to believe the simple truths you’ve spat at him. It’s pointless, a waste of time and strangely satisfying (especially when several of close friends “have your back”).

Since I left Jack of All Blades, I’ve been getting flack from the artist who was helping my co-author out. Something about defaming JAB forever with my hideous, horrifically truthful words. He pleaded, nay, demanded an explicit warning be erected over any falsehood in my writing ever.

Let’s talk about creative writing for a minute.

To put it bluntly, if someone is worried about anyone else completely believing what they read on an internet weblog, they lack more common sense than pride. First off, the medium is the internet—single-handedly the largest repository of lies, trash and complete bullshit ever created. That’s a fact. Second, I’ve already stated clearly and obviously that what I do here is not fact. It’s not news, it’s not all true—it’s an exploration of myself through creative writing. It’s so meta.

The quickest way to end drama (a self-defeat already, since prefaced with the cyclic unending of drama upon attempting to quit) is to ignore it. That is what I am doing, and that is what I ask you, my reader, to do. Ignore it. Don’t flame, don’t spam, don’t hate (comments on the emotion or moral of the post are fine). Just smile, knowing you are a triumph. You are overcoming something undying. Let it go free, never forgetting how you learned from the drama or grew out of it, always remembering how you got into it. Just smile and see the beauty in an argument, see the poise in a row and know that you are better than all of it.

Waf says:

*Sigh* I shouldn't of been such a good sport about letting you post libel about me as a creative writing project. It's only been a day and I've been called by multiple family members today about your story. I can't stand internet drama and you need to get it back under control NOW. Please stop dragging my name through the mud and acting surprised when I get hurt.
