Promise

Sprawled out before a dying fire
I hold you in my arms and know
My love for you will never tire,
Even when I let you go.

I profess my love each time we kiss
(And twice, each time we part),
But daily, how I often miss
The chance to open my soft heart.

A fixture when we're intimate,
This love pours from my soul,
And oh! my love, this sentiment
Feels sturdy as a foal.

Yet even through the thick and thin,
O'er hills and valleys we must pass,
I still will stop, and think, and grin,
And know our love will always last.

So please, know that when times get tough
And fate draws back his velvet glove,
As hand-in-hand we take his cuff,
Nothing can ever shake my love.
