Last night as I slept, the flood of emotions that repeatedly pushed me up against the rough retaining wall of common sense subsided, leaving me exactly where I predicted myself to be—standing in the middle of an utterly destroyed, waterlogged floodplain that sat silent in an eerie yet undeniably pleasant calm. Last night, I reset, I recalibrated my emotions, and woke up. The cool summer morning echoed my reboot as a hard rain gave way to a smooth, foggy morning.

I was going to write an amazing story about a strangely warm, overcast summer afternoon, a sudden downpour of cold, clean rain, and two unknowing lovers discovering a hidden passion hovering barely beyond their met gaze. It was going to be based on fact and assumption, on truths and mere hopes, and on the idea that even in the worst of times, there can be best of times. Sincere conversations and stinging, painful realizations always manage to destroy whatever scrap of happiness may exist, replacing it instead with lumps of coal and emptiness.

Last night, all I wanted to do was get buzzed, play some WOW and just chill out; however, due to lack of friends and money and alcohol, I had quite a different night—I drank a fuzzy navel and watched Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan with my parents.

I’m lucky (unlucky?) enough to live quite close to the small town of Bell Buckle, TN, and every year they host the “RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival.” With Bonaroo in town and having nothing else to do, I decided to go with my family to this little shindig. We arrived after most of the festivities had ended, but we still got to grab a late lunch—a lunch including a deep-fried Moon Pie.

I’ve been considering running a few SomeryC-related contests (template design, plugin design, tutorials, et cetera), but I want to know how many people would be interested in entering.
I’d like to give away “tangible” prizes (gift cards, freshly-baked cookies, online vouchers), but I can only do so if I have enough entries to make the contest worthwhile.
Please cast your vote (if you aren’t registered, go ahead and do it—it won’t take but a few minutes), and if you’re so inclined, post a reply describing the types of contests you’d like to see.
I don't usually post technological news here at I, Revolutionary!, but Apple just released Safari 3 beta for Windows. I've used Safari somewhat on the Macs at school, but was never too impressed; however, they've added tabbed browsing and a slew of new features, so it might be worth checking out.
Let me know what you think about it.
Last night, I finished another melancholy comic and started work on a guest comic for Jack of All Blades. About an hour into the guest comic, I realized just how much I love to draw. Although I enjoy writing, it just doesn't convey the same emotions that a quick sketch can.

Heartbreak is a play in three acts. Act one features the protagonist standing in disbelief under a single, blue spotlight. It follows him back and forth across the stage as he delivers an expertly timed monologue consisting only of “but” and “why.” As the lights dim and the curtains close, he moans audibly. As the second act begins, the protagonist is lying on the floor stage left, one arm drooping down over the stage and knocking against a cellist’s sheet music as he sobs pathetically. Act two varies in length depending on who is putting on the production, but it rarely lasts more than a few weeks before giving the audience a much-deserved intermission.

There are twenty-six letters in the alphabet. As I tell myself to “just write what I feel,” I can’t help but stare at the keyboard and wonder which of the keys to press. It’s easy to let the feelings mull about in my head, but when I go to put them down, it’s just so hard to write “finally miserable.”
