Preamble

As sad as it is for me to say the words, they ring undeniably true: The Subtle Pen is dead; defunct; deceased. The harder I tried to make every single thing in that tiny universe brilliant and blatantly accessible the faster it crumbled down around my oddly-shaped toes. Much like the inverse growth patterns of rabbits left unchecked in a field of clovers, The Subtle Pen began to decline faster and faster until there was nothing left to do but look at it, sigh and move on. That is the exact reason why you are here.

In an era of weblogs, there are three main archetypes. The first is the political weblog. It seems that everyone has suddenly become a politician, scientist, and judge all within the matter of a few months, what with everyone vomiting theories, spitting empty promises and pointing out exactly how they could do anything better than anyone else. The mindless masses flock to these sites in droves, just to make sure they know exactly what Mr. A has done wrong again, and how Mr. C can fix it. (If you are wondering why I forgot Mr. B, think about what it is to secretly insert bias into writing. If you are still wondering why, I am sorry.) These sites can spring up rather quickly; they become exceedingly successful overnight, yet they do nothing in the way of progress. They just sit there and mull over the same ridiculousness that caused their conception, never pushing forward. It is for this reason why this is not a political weblog.

The second main archetype is that of the news aggregator. These weblogs, worked by many different people, eagerly gather news from everyone else and display it proudly on their sites. Although quite convenient, these weblogs often lack a feeling of subtle personality that the various other weblogs can provide. I am not multiple people, nor do I enjoy news. For those reasons, this is not a news aggregator weblog.

The final main archetype is something I like to call the “cool weblog”. Others have their own adoring names for this scab on the back of mass communication, such as “emo blogs” or “MySpaces”. (I mean no disrespect.) Within these festering mounds of digital crap, adolescent humans clink away at their keyboards tirelessly; making sure the whole world knows the important reasons why “they want to kill themselves”, “everybody hates them”, “they think they are in love” and¬ “they are faultless”. They writhe around aimlessly, hoping—nay, praying—that someone, anyone, will stop and read their “deep metaphysical ideas”. Why produce meaningless dribble when so much is possible with the English language? There is no point to it, and that is the reason why this is not a “cool weblog”.

This is a weblog about discovery. The Subtle Pen was about finding out who I really am, what I really want and why I want what I really want. Now that I have used up every ounce of discovery, after pressing my metaphorical tongue to the bottom of the metaphorical container that The Subtle Pen is being described as, I can taste the need for a weblog such as this; a weblog that breaks molds and dares to explore creation, discovery, passion and emotion; a weblog that creates a completely new archetype, choosing to write for others what no one on the Internet has: Art, bitter and pure.

Welcome, my friends, to I, Revolutionary!.
